Neither Russia's decision to cut off gas supplies to Finland, nor Lithuania's abandonment of Russian gas, will significantly affect the Estonian gas market.
The Estonian state is to keep around a fifth of Estonia's annual natural gas needs in the form of a reserve, as part of efforts to decouple from dependency on Russian supply in the wake of the Ukraine war.
Gas company Eesti Gaas is not planning on paying Russia's Gazprom in rubles or buying gas from Russia at all in the near future. The company aims to ensure supply security using its reserves and liquified natural gas (LNG) from Klaipeda.
