Former Bóthar CEO admits significant wrongdoing

Legal Affairs Correspondent The former chief executive of the Bóthar charity, David Moloney, has admitted very significant wrongdoing in relation to the misappropriation of money from the charity. The High Court heard that the amount of money alleged to have been taken by him from the charity has increased from €465,000 to almost €770,000 in light of admissions made by him. Lawyers for the charity said Mr Moloney, from Clino, Newport in Co Tipperary, had made significant admissions since allegations that he misappropriated donations to the charity were first revealed earlier this month. But they said the charity was troubled as Mr Moloney had not told them what he had done with the money.

Bóthar dispute with former chief adjourned for two weeks by High Court

A dispute between the BÃ³thar charity and its former chief executive David Moloney has been adjourned for two weeks at the High Court. Last week, BÃ³thar, whose activities include aiding poor farmers in developing nations through donations of livestock, secured a temporary High Court injunction freezing the assets of Mr Moloney, who resigned as chief executive in February. Ms Justice Nuala Butler also ordered Mr Moloney, who joined BÃ³thar in 1995 and held the post of chief executive for eight years, not to reduce his assets below a value of â¬465,000. The orders were made on an ex parte basis (one side represented only) and the judge heard Mr Moloney of Clino, Newport, Co Tipperary, denies all allegations of wrongdoing.

WRC hearing halted in ex-RTÉ employee retirement case

Industry and Employment Correspondent The Labour Court has halted the hearing of a case taken by a former RTÉ employee about being forced to retire at 65 due to inappropriate comments made by a member of the court yesterday. The unusual move occurred in the case of Anne Roper versus RTÉ, on what was to be the fifth day of the hearing, and will impose a significant additional costs burden on the parties faced with another rehearing of the case. Yesterday, a member of the division, Arthur Hall, said that questioning by RTÉ s counsel Marguerite Bolger SC was ageist and sexist .
