The Question caught up with February’s Volunteer of the Month to talk about the unique opportunities that come with volunteering in Whistler, learning to cross-country ski and her advice for future volunteers (hint: don’t try to do it all).
The Question: When did you first start volunteering?
Margot Murdoch: I started volunteering before I had kids. Most of what I do now involves my kids. After teachers’ college, I started teaching high school I liked coaching and doing theatre, sports and council. I liked the volunteering part more than the teaching part! I wanted to be there and the kids wanted to be there. It took out the serious part. When I moved to Whistler I had my kids right away. I had three kids and I was working part time; volunteering is a lot easier for people with free time.
