In just two weeks, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has gone from a little easing of the COVID-19 masking requirements for fully vaccinated people to almost normal.
The new guidelines give us some flexibility, but at the same time we must continue to protect ourselves and others. The CDC continues to recommend masks be worn indoors and in large gatherings outdoors such as sporting and concert events. For more information, check out CDC.gov.
In April, the Woman’s Exchange of St. Augustine, of which I am a member, met in-person for first time since March 2020 in the garden of the Peña-Peck House on St. George Street, the heart of the downtown business district. We wore our masks and were under a tent. It was an important milestone.
Pope’s View: Moving forward as 2020 turns into 2021
By Margo C. Pope
Are you seeing it that way, too?
It is no longer a matter of when the vaccine will come. We know it is near. We have watched people around the world being vaccinated and heard their testimonies of how they feel and why they took it. We focus now on moving forward to when we will be able to get it.
Are you ready to take it, too?
We have come a long way from mid-March when our way of life that we took for granted changed. In previous commentaries for The St. Augustine Record, I have looked at how our street changed, how the rhythm changed, how we changed. We have stayed indoors a lot, but made sure that we drive somewhere almost daily, so we see the community at large. We walk our deck, scour the internet for “exercise routines during a pandemic.” We found some good ones presented by fitness groups.
