The Texas Tech University commencement has been moved on Saturday to the United Supermarkets Arena due to the threat of severe weather. There has also been an adjustment to the ceremony times.
On June 30, 2020, students from the J.T & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts sent a call-to-action letter to Texas Tech officials. The letter shined a light on the Techâs late response to the death of George Floyd and highlighted the lack of protection, safety and wellbeing of the Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) in the college. It also highlighted the lack of diversity in the college administration and insensitive works that the college has shown.
The college has since put forth a statement saying they will listen and do everything they can to change the climate of the college and have better representation.
