In the beginning, Derrick and Margaret Czarnecki were simply trying to figure out what to do with a bit of extra space inside their newly renovated building in the heart of downtown New Carlisle.
The couple, along with a business partner, Pete Agostino, purchased the 19th-century building at 203 E. Michigan St. in 2010 with renovation plans to accommodate a Bruno s Pizza restaurant on the corner. And the 700 square feet of space next door needed to be complementary.
During a family trip to upstate New York, the Czarneckis found a little coffee and candy shop inside an old building, structured similarly to the one they had just purchased.
