Maybe, Rio Grande High baseball coach Orlando Griego suggested to one of his assistant coaches during Game 1, it was time to move Jose Martinez up in the Ravens batting order.
It was Martinez, a freshman designated hitter in the 8 hole, who delivered the season’s most clutch swing for Rio Grande, a two-out, tie-breaking RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday that sent the Ravens to a 4-3 win over visiting Albuquerque High in the first game of a District 5-5A doubleheader.
“Pretty good freshman,” Griego said of Martinez, who was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the opener.
