By Antonio Ray Harvey | California Black Media - The California Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) has expressed uncertainty regarding the potential effects of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Behavioral Health Modernization Proposal on children and youth mental health services spending, as there is no funding requirement for children and youth, while suicide rates among Black youth have risen to more than 12 per 100,000 youth in 2020, up from six per 100,000 in 2014.
Democratic state Sen. Steven Bradford warned Black California residents not to expect massive reparations payments to be made out to them by the state.
Bradford’s message comes after the California Reparations Task Force recommended over the weekend that the state pay up to $1.2 million in reparations to each eligible Black resident.
