The violence has included deliberately striking civilian targets and committing acts of torture, sexual violence and forced imprisonment of the occupied population, according to international investigators.
Numerous international and national investigations are being launched into war crimes in Ukraine. The focus has been on the alleged crimes of Russian forces, but there are also some allegations concerning Ukrainian forces, particularly in relation to prisoners of war. The question remains whether, when and by whom such crimes might also be tried.
