the country in the many months not just the last couple weeks but in the months they were gaining ground, they put into place the regime where they kept girls 12 and over from going to school. we don t know what they ll do in the future but it does not look good based on history. many of the afghans who we worry or wonder why they didn t rise up and fight, we have to ask what they would be fighting for. the american government continued to pour money into this country as everyone had pointed out knowing the government was corrupt, the army was not getting the resources it needed. this wasn t a brutal battle by the taliban city by city. in many places they walked in, negotiated with the local leaders and continued to march on. the days, weeks, months ahead i think the biden administration owns what is happening on the ground and the question remains what exactly are the taliban going to do with the power now that they have it.
are not just martin s life, andio landa s mother. you head the drum major institute, one of the groups like national action network and others that have called this march, march on, and sciu. how optimistic are you about legislative breakthrough? because when we got down to the nitty-gritty with manchin and saying maybe you could go along with the john lewis bill they had questions about senate bill 1, what do you want to see in a bill. and we met with lindsey graham. these were blunt, no holds barred meetings. how optimistic are you that there can be some breakthrough own this issue particular chi before next year s midterm elections? andrea? to be honest, i wasn t i didn t come away quite as optimistic as i would have liked or hoped.
most fundamental right, which is the right to vote, in the same way? legally, i don t know what that looks like but i know it s, certainly, up for suggestion. but in the interim, one of the things that we re doing. august 28th is the anniversary of the march in washington. and we re doing we have joined with a number of organizations, national action network, march on, futures coalition, sciu, to do another march. and we re doing marches in five cities around this country. atlanta, miami, phoenix, houston, and washington, d.c. and their sister cities that are coming on. people are gonna be in the streets mobilizing and the other goal is to register 2 million people, by the midterm elections. these are things that may, potentially, create a change in our nation. and like you just noted, i mean, it s been nearly-60 years since your father s march on washington. so, what does what does it say, to you, that you re launching this initiative, now? what does it say about the state of ou
