life opens up. aleve it. and see what s possible. 34 past the hour. voting rights will take center stage on capitol hill this week, as senators will return to the capitol tomorrow to begin debate on legislation to protect voting rights. but right now, senate democrats do not have the votes to advance those bills or change senate rules to pass them by a simple majority. with me now to talk about this is texas democratic congresswoman, shelia jackson lee. congresswoman, it is always a pleasure to see you. thank you for being with me this morning. we ve already been seeing the impact of new voting restrictions in your home state. i mean, the texas tribune reports hundreds of applications for mail-in ballots for the march 1st primary have been
immigration, guns rights. one issue we have heard from folks that is not as bad as conservatives is on abortion. a lot of people are upset with governor abbott and the heartbeat bill, signed into law last year. president trump is bringing on with him about a dozen incumbents across the state that have been endorsed by him for the march 1st primary. one topic we re hear more than anything else here is the anger and frustration. here s what some folks we talked to had to say. reporter: what direction do you think we re going? down the toilet. prices are skyrocketing. we have nothing. texas needs to secede and walk away. reporter: you believe that? whoa heartedly.
they think a cisneros win could make it competitive for the first time in a long time in the fall. for texas voters watching, today is the last day to register to vote in the march 1st primary. you can register as long as the application is post marked today or submit your application at the voters register s office. absentee applications have to be received by february 18th, not just postmarked. go to votetexas/governor to for stats. from a high profile governor s race to the attorney general to even a new leader in
the mirror and figure out how we re going to make sure that we don t move closer and closer to a lot of these countries that are okay with taking away rights from people. it is extraordinary, mccarthy endorsing liz cheney s primary opponent, how often does that happen, that you endorse the primary opponent of a sitting member of congress? we ll see if it serves him well, let s hope the folks in wyoming are smarter than that. in texas, your state, where the state s restrictive voting law is impacting early voting for that march 1st primary under way, thousands of ballots are at risk right now for being rejected for errors if voters don t correct them soon. a majority of those errors involve the state s new i.d. requirements. what are you seeing in your district about this, what are you hearing from your constituents? oh, it s so confusing right now, which is one of the things republicans wanted to do when they passed this law, they hoped
