An unexpected variety show

An unexpected variety show Ross Zentner A scene from the Forward Theater production 46 Plays for America s First Ladies, with (left to right) Phoebe González, Nadja Simmonds and Matt Daniels. Sequels are very rarely better than the original stories. But Forward Theater’s current production of 46 Plays for America’s First Ladies is a definite exception — it is even better than its predecessor and companion piece, 44 Plays for 44 Presidents. Written and developed by many of the same artists from Chicago’s Neo-Futurists (Genevra Gallo-Bayiates, Sharon Greene, Chloe Johnston, Bilal Dardai and Andy Bayiates), this funny, inventive, sometimes poignant, sometimes bizarre, episodic variety show focuses on the women behind the men who have led our country over the past 200-plus years. A virtual performance that was filmed in the Overture’s Playhouse in front of a socially distanced live audience, the play is available to stream until May 23.

Theater: The Library As Portal To The World

Milwaukee Chamber Theatre presents ‘Underneath The Lintel’ by Emmy-winning writer Glen Berger. By Jeff Jordan - Apr 1st, 2021 03:45 pm //end headline wrapper ?>Underneath The Lintel Ask any librarian, and you could get a story about an overdue book. I’m sure they all have their favorites. Playwright Glen Berger takes this experience to the next level when he imagines a young librarian finding a book in the overnight deposit chute that is 113 years overdue. The book has enticing notes written in the margins that motivate our heroine to take a journey of self-discovery as she goes around the world defying the bounds of space and time, seeking to collect the fine for this book.
