Legislators, town officials, police, criminal justice and child advocates are all pulling from their respective expertise to tackle a crime plaguing local residents.
Car break-ins and theft in suburbs of New Britain and Hartford have risen dramatically in the last year. Stolen vehicle reports alone have increased 92% in Newington, 40% in Wethersfield and 256% in Berlin. Connecticut State Police and detectives from major cities established a task force this year to address this issue head-on. In July, the group reported recovering 154 stolen cars and eight stolen firearms, also making 59 felony arrests.
