The Byron Center High School Jazz Band is in the running for the Essentially Ellington Award.
The band is among 15 schools across the nation nominated for the festival and competition in honor of jazz legend Duke Ellington.
Byron Center Fine Arts Director Marc Townley says the process includes public, private, fine arts and community schools that all blindly audition with a Duke Ellington piece.
The competition will be held virtually on June 4 and 5.
