Dundee United 2-2 Motherwell: Youngsters star for United as Devante Cole steals point for Well in final home game of the season
Dundee United 2-2 Motherwell: Youngsters star for United as Devante Cole steals point for Well in final home game of the season Updated: May 12, 2021, 8:07 pm © SNS Group Dundee United celebrate Archie Meekison (centre) doubling their lead in the first half. Dundee United succumbed to a draw against Motherwell in their final home game of the season, with the performance of their young stars a silver lining. Goals from Lawrence Shankland and Archie Meekison gave United a comfortable first-half lead at Tannadice but they would be left ruing a 20-minute penalty miss from Shanks. Chris Long would pull a goal back for the Lanarkshire men early in the second period before fellow-hitman Devante Cole’s header earned the Steelmen a point late on.

Micky Mellon reaffirms commitment to Dundee United as he reveals transfer plans - including deal for Marc McNulty
© Calum Woodger/DCT Media Dundee United striker Marc McNulty and boss Micky Mellon. Micky Mellon says he is “100% committed” to Dundee United and is targeting a deal for Marc McNulty. The United boss insists his future is at Tannadice until he is told differently as he laid out plans for the summer transfer window. The wheels are already in motion to do a deal for on-loan Reading hitman McNulty to return to the club in some capacity next season, with Mellon looking bring in some new faces. Only last month the 49-year-old was linked with a move back down south, where he spent most of his playing and management career, to League One Doncaster.

Dundee United analysis: The rebuild starts now as Scottish Cup exit leaves the Tangerines with more questions than answers
Dundee United analysis: The rebuild starts now as Scottish Cup exit leaves the Tangerines with more questions than answers Updated: May 10, 2021, 2:17 pm © SNS Group / SFA Jamie Robson, Jeando Fuchs and Ryan Edwards look dejected after Dundee United s 2-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Hibs. For all it’s been a successful first season at the helm for Micky Mellon; it’s one that leaves Dundee United with more questions than answers still. Heading into yesterday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Hibs, Mellon’s mantra of dealing with ‘the asks of the game’ was reiterated time and again. Though the Tangerines faced up to the Hibees’ probing reasonably well, their ultimate downfall was not testing the opposition enough as Jack Ross’ men ran out 2-0 winners.

CALUM WOODGER: Dundee United chiefs Micky Mellon and Tony Asghar are delivering on pre-season promises and James McPake is Dundee s beating heart
© SNS Group Micky Mellon and sporting director Tony Asghar at the Dundee United boss’ unveiling in June last year. Hands up – I had my doubts about the noises coming out of Tannadice before the season kicked off. Sporting director Tony Asghar, former boss Robbie Neilson, current gaffer Micky Mellon and copious other tangerine figures set their stall out with lofty ambitions. From the seemingly achievable aim of top-six football that the Terrors narrowly missed out on to winning cups and a return to European football – it was quite the manifesto for a newly-promoted side. Credit to United, though, heading into this afternoon’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Hibs two of those targets are still very much in their sights.

Dundee United 0-2 Hibs: Nisbet and Doidge dump Terrors out as Hibees book place in Scottish Cup Final
Dundee United 0-2 Hibs: Nisbet and Doidge dump Terrors out as Hibees book place in Scottish Cup Final Updated: May 9, 2021, 12:53 pm © SNS Group Kevin Nisbet (right) celebrates giving Hibs the lead at Hampden. Dundee United were dumped out of the Scottish Cup as goals from Kevin Nisbet and Christian Doidge booked Hibs’ place in the final. A delicate Nisbet finish on 27 minutes and a controversial second-half strike from Doidge was enough for Jack Ross’ men to set up a May 22 showpiece against St Mirren or St Johnstone. The all-Saints semi-final takes place at Hampden tomorrow but it was Hibs celebrating at the national stadium this afternoon as they came out on top in the last-four clash.
