Members of the Commission gathered at the location of the former ‘Granite and Marble Works’.
The building, which once stood at the corner of 3rd and Cameron Streets south of La Crosse’s downtown, was recently demolished.
The building and others are on a list, as they at risk of being demolished or redevelopment due to disrepair, neglect or natural disasters.
Commission members say work now can save pieces of the city’s history.
“We’re not maintaining them in every case. And we need to encourage where we can people to maintain these properties, because who wants to allow properties like this to just fall into disrepair? It’s not in anyone’s interest,” said La Crosse Heritage Preservation Commission member David Reil.
