philadelphia, but, you know, these are still people that need to be heard and represented and mr. boyd is not my constituent, but after i met him on monday, he had come up to the capitol the day we had our committee hearing for this bill, and he spoke exactly what i read at the press conference we had on monday, and obviously not everyone attends that. and after hearing him and meeting him and seeing him stand in a building that has gold-plated chandeliers and marble floors and this, you know, he s telling the story of survival and how this really impacted him and, you know, for me it s there wasn t another option other than to tell make sure he had an opportunity to have his heard his story heard by more than just that press conference. and if people wanted to vote on this program to be eliminated, i it was imperative to have his voice heard before that vote. senator, keep at it. i love politicians like you that get out there and take a lot of heat and get their points acros
we ve spent a lot of time on marble floors in the capitol over the past 20 days. from kind of a history making 30,000-foot perspective, what do you think happened over the course of this week that s going to matter most in the long term? and is the damage that s been done to the institution of the senate irreparable? i think the biggest long-term shift is on the court itself. this is a seat that for 47 years beforehand had been held by louis powell who was himself a cent rift swing vote and then bjork got defeated and that led to kennedy replacing powell who spent 30 years as a cent rift centrist vote. he has the possibility shifting the court to the right for years to come. in terms of the senate, lindsey graham summed it up best. if this isn t bottom, god help us. i think we re going to find out. cheerful. steve kornacki, let me go to you on this question that we sort of were talking about at the end of
