Evacuations were in place south of Carmel on Saturday after the blaze was reported around 7 p.m. Friday in the Palo Colorado Canyon area, authorities said; it was 5% contained as of 7:45 a.m. Saturday. Highway 1 was closed from Rio Road in Carmel to Andrew Molera State Park in the Big Sur area Saturday morning.
