Dunaliella Salina is a type of halophile green micro-algae especially found in sea salt fields. Known for its antioxidant activity because of its ability to create large amount of carotenoids, it is used in cosmetics and dietary supplements.
Scientists have discovered that there is an intriguing pink color off the south coast of Western Australia. The pink waters of Lake Hillier contain halophilic bacteria and Dunaliella salina. The carotenoids and red pigments they secrete give the pink lake an extraordinary color.
Among the new products of Mintel Global New Product Database (GNPD), the number of annual new products containing Dunaliella salina extract has increased 3.6 times in the past five years (2020 vs 2016).
