Shelby s girls basketball team advanced to its first ever state championship with a 49-44 win at West Stokes in the NCHSAA 2A Western Regional Final on Tuesday.
The Golden Lions (18-0, 12-0 Southwestern Athletic) were led by the trio of sophomore point guard Maraja Pass (12 points), sophomore shooting guard Ally Hollifield (11 points) and junior shooting guard Kate Hollifield (10 points).
Hannah Spainhour had 17 points and Emma Santoro and Bree Spainhour had 10 points apiece to lead the Wildcats (14-1, 10-0 Western Piedmont) in the season-ending loss.
