justice. reporter: tonight, as top intelligence officials work to assess any risk to national security, many republicans demanding more answers and transparency from the department of justice, critical that the affidavit used to justify a search warrant for former president trump s mar-a-lago estate was released but only with heavy redactions. what is the subject matter? what s the dates? what s the times? what are we talking about here? it s hard to believe that the justice department and the fbi would take steps unless they had something pretty serious they were investigating. we just don t know the facts yet. reporter: others, though, clearly feel they ve seen enough. the hypocrisy of folks in my party that spent years canting lock her up about hilary clinton because of some deleted emails or wiping a server are now out there defending a man who very clearly did not take the national security of the united states to heart. reporter: senator roy blunt pressed on the bas
the evidence which the department produced to get a search warrant. these documents are normally kept sealed. the search of trump s mar a lago estate was part of a criminal investigation into whether the former president removed classified documents when he left the white house. he s denied any wrongdoing. the affidavit says that there is probable cause to believe that there are additional documents with classified information still at mar a lago, and there s also probable cause to believe that evidence of obstruction will be found at the premises . the affidavit s conclusion makes the case that probable cause exists to believe that evidence, contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessed in violation of three federal statutes would be found on the premises. our north america correspondent, anthony zurcher, is in south florida. the curtain has now been pulled back ever so slightly on what the justice department has called its investigation, criminal investig
