Congress, India s grand old party , fell victim to an embarassing mistake in Madhya Pradesh, whereby the party elected an ex-Congress member, currently in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) s ranks, for a Youth Congress post in the state.
Harshit Singhai, now a BJP worker, was left startled on this day when he received congratulatory messages over his election to a new post as the secretary of the Jabalpur unit of the Youth Congress.
Singhai had left the Congress back in March, along with a group of defectors who followed veteran leader Jyotiraditya Scindia s footsteps and switched camps over from the Congress to the BJP.

A BJP leader has been elected as district secretary of Congress party s youth wing in Madhya Pradesh s Jabalpur,
Hindustan Times has reported.
As per the report the BJP leader Harshit Singhai is a supporter of Jyotiraditya Scindia and had quit the Congress nine months back along with Scindia.
He then was slated to contest the elections for the Youth Congress district secretary post but purportedly did not withdraw his nomination papers. The elections subsequently took place from 10 to 12 December.

The Congress was left red-faced as it elected a youth wing general secretary in Madhya Pradesh who had long left the party, NDTV reported on Tuesday. Harshit Singhai had quit the Congress in March, when several party MLAs and workers left with Jyotiraditya Scindia to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Youth Congress’ organisational election results were announced on December 18, and Singhai was elected by 12 votes. The same day, Singhai received congratulatory messages over his new post in Jabalpur.
“The most laughable is the fact that no one was interested in the polls and I was elected general secretary,” he told reporters. “I left the Congress on March 10 with Scindia-ji. I filled in my nomination for the Youth Congress polls three years ago.”
