The World Bank approved $380 million in financing from the International Development Association (IDA) to support Malawi and Mozambique increase regional trade coordination, reduce trade costs and time, develop regional value chains, and improve access to infrastructure.
The new Southern Africa Trade and Connectivity Project (SATCP) will benefit both countries and local communities through investments that will facilitate trade, strengthen regional coordiation, and increase diversified economic opportunities along the Nacala and Beira corridors, connecting Mozambique to Malawi, and along the Maputo Corridor, connecting Mozambique to South Africa through Ponta Do Ouro. The north and central parts of Mozambique and central and southern Malawi, where poverty levels are the highest, and the region near Ponta do Ouro will benefit most. The project will ensure that youth and women are well represented among its beneficiaries.

Testifying at the Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture, Gama spoke about how he was later lured to the Gupta Saxonwold family compound, registering displeasure at being invited to a business meeting at a private residence.
Led by the commission’s evidence leader Anton Myburgh on how he was introduced to Tony Gupta, Gama said it all began at the office of Transnet chief financial officer Anoj Singh.

How ECA helped drive an economic diversification agenda in Central Africa in 2020
The 2020 vision of the Office for Central Africa of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), for a subregion resolutely driven towards economic diversification and transformation, was largely achieved. This, through the nudging of member States to formulate policies and strategies which contributed to an increase of intra-subregional trade from 1.7% to 2.1% and the uptake of at least two groundbreaking policies /practices - notably the ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement by all seven countries covered by the Office and the acceptance by ECCAS and CEMAC commissions to formulate a unique masterplan for industrialization and economic diversification, following the completion of Chad s masterplan in this regard.
