Vaccination programmes have emerged as one aspect of pandemic control UK officials excel at, with more than six million people covered by a first dose and counting. Government figures now show they have covered three out of four over 80s countrywide. The process started in December 2020, when British authorities used EU legislation to approve the US-made Covid jab. Since then, health workers have delivered more than five million first doses.
