In England the infection rate is 107.8 cases per 100,000 people. Across the Braintree district as a whole the figures for the seven days to February 23 show an infection rate of 84.5 cases per 100,000 people. A further 129 cases were also recorded in the seven days. A map also shows the infection rate in each part of the district and how much it has changed in a week. It shows three areas have infection rates higher than the national average. Marks Tey and Wakes Colne has the highest with an infection rate of 265.3 for the seven days up to February 23. The area had 23 cases confirmed in that time.

BRAINTREE residents have been urged to stick to the coronavirus restrictions as hospitals in Essex begin to rollout a vaccine. The warning has come from the area s MP, James Cleverly, who hailed the start of the vaccination programme as a remarkable day . But the news was somewhat dampened by the announcement of a further coronavirus-related deaths in Braintree. All three deaths were recorded in hospital in the week ending November 27 and takes the overall total to 137 since the pandemic began. The first doses of the approved Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine were administered in the UK on Tuesday, with 94-year-old war veteran Frederick Benton one of the first to receive it in Essex.
