An encounter took place between Maoists and security forces in a forest area between Purangel village (Kirandul police station) and Peediya village (Gangalur police station), which is a border area, around 8 am.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Maoists, joint teams of state police and a Central Reserve Police Force’s (CRPF) Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) unit headed towards Korlaguda and Bhatapani villages in Gariyaband district.
In the first incident, one CPI-Maoist cadre was killed and three District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawans were injured in an encounter between security forces and Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.
