Armando Manzanero Canché, who was of Mayan heritage, was born on Dec. 7, 1934, in Merida, in southeastern Mexico, though his birth date was not officially registered until a year later, as Dec. 7, 1935, he said in interviews. (Some records suggest that he was born on Feb. 7, 1935.)
“A year more, a year less, it doesn’t make a difference,” he said in a 2019 interview on Mexico’s Imagen Televisión.

Armando Manzanero died this morning at 86; the singer-songwriter was hospitalized since December 17 after complications with covid-19.
MERIDA Yucatan (Times Media Mexico) – The well-known Yucatecan singer-songwriter Armando Manzanero died this morning at 86 due to a heart attack. Recently it was reported that the interpreter tested positive for covid-19, so he had to be hospitalized on December 17, and although this Sunday it was reported that his lungs were already fine, his kidneys had complications, which kept him hospitalized.
In early December, Armando Manzanero opened the Museo Casa Manzanero in Merida, his place of birth. The museum is dedicated to his life and the successful career he had for more than 60 years.

Active until his death, he penned more than 400 songs and was covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Andrea Bocelli.
Armando Manzanero, the seminal songwriter who wrote some of the most iconic and enduring songs in the Latin American songbook and whose music was performed by the world’s biggest stars, from Frank Sinatra to Elvis Presley to Andrea Bocelli and Luis Miguel has died, multiple outlets reported. He was 85.
According to published reports in various news outlets, including Mexican daily
El Universal, Manzanero s cause of death was complications from COVID-19.
Manzanro had reportedly been diagnosed with the virus on Dec. 17 and was hospitalized five days later. He was put on a respirator but as recently as last night (Dec. 27), reports on his health were good.
