At least 200 fiercely contested seats in West Bengal will go to polls only after the third phase on April 6, only when Assam, Tamil Nadu and Kerala elections are over.
This move shows the availability of central forces in West Bengal may have been the Election Commission’s underlying concern while deciding the dates.
Welcoming the EC decision to hold assembly polls in eight phases, BJP said the availability of central forces in the sensitive areas is needed. However, Trinamool Congress lashed out at the central agency for misusing its powers to “meet the requirements of BJP”.

A “PROLONGED SUPPRESSION” of the virus is the strategy the Government is pursuing, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said today.
Speaking in Leaders’ Questions, he said “there will be no half-measures from me, as Taoiseach, or from Government”.
“We will do whatever it takes to keep the numbers down, once we get the numbers down. And we are achieving that,” he said.
