Protect taonga from misappropriation
The chair of a group battling to protect Māori intellectual property says tangata whenua rights are certified through their own creation stories.
Victor Goldsmith, chair of the Manuka Charitable Trusts s operating arm Te Pitau, is leading a series of meeting around the country gathering support from Māori to take legal action to stop Australian beekeepers marketing their products as mānuka honey.
Mr Goldsmith says $6 million funded through the Provincial Growth Fund is being used on the group s legal case and certifying their claim of authenticity.
