Goa, Feb 18 : The race for the Indian Super League (ISL) playoffs took another twist as NorthEast United FC were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Chennaiyin FC at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim, on Thursday.
Lanzarote s addition has definitely strengthened the Chennaiyin side but his presence in the team will have no significance if they cannot finish the chances which the Spanish midfield creates.
Chennaiyin have missed the presence of a genuine number nine in their squad right from the beginning of the season. Laszlo has experiment every possible combination with his two foreign strikers Isma and Jakub Sylvestr but unfortunately, none of them are natural goal poachers.
Isma could have very well ended up scoring at least two goals if he was a bit more clinical in front of the goal but unfortunately, the Guinea-Bissau international, who has scored just one goal from open play this season, failed to take his chances.
If you want to be in the top four, we have to win the remaining games and this is not too much. We have five finals and this is what we are working towards. I hope that we can showcase not just good football but also that we can score goals. We created so many chances but we didn t score. I hope that we have more luck against Bengaluru, he added.
Laszlo hopes that Manuel Lanzarote, the replacement for injured Rafael Crivellaro who is back in Brazil, will boost the attack. Lanza was in India for a couple of years. He s a good player and he knows the Indian [Super] League. He s a player who can make a difference and I hope he can help us bring back the creativity in the midfield.
Five games later, the issues remain the same.
FULL-TIME. A much livelier second half with Chennaiyin dominating proceedings and fashioning plenty of chances. It hit the corssbar twice and missed open goal chances keeping up with the theme of the season. Hyderabad delivered the suckerpunch through Chianese s goal on the break. Hyderabd will breathe a sigh of relief as it ends a run of four successie draws to claim a win. It jumps above FC Goa and NorthEast United FC into third on the points table.
90 +7 Alberg gets a yellow card.
90 +5 Chhangte from the left hooks in a cross but its out of play for a goalkick.
