Trevor Bryan talks about how there are two fights in his sport.
The 31-year-old pro boxer from Albany was in the ring on Friday and scored a technical knockout over 42-year-old Bermane Stiverne in the 11th round at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
With the TKO came a championship belt, in this case signifying the WBA “World” champion, a distinction that has been joined by several other title designations within the weight class because of fighter inactivity and WBA rulings.

Trevor Bryan became WBA ‘Regular’ Heavyweight champion, in a week where controversy reigned and Boxing politics reared its ugly head as he stopped Bermane Stiverne in eleven rounds.
2021 is barely a month old and already the sport of boxing has been plunged into embarrassment.Â
After the debacle of Manuel Charr finally not travelling to America to defend his WBA heavyweight title for the first time since the back end of 2017.

In true Don King style, there has been much controversy over the card itself, and most importantly the main event. Chaos has reigned, as Manuel Charr, the WBA “Regular” Heavyweight champion, was forced to withdraw from a first defence in over three years.
Charr claimed there were contractual issues, while King’s camp insisted an uncompleted Visa was the reason that Charr could not appear. Whatever the ins and outs, we are now left with a new main event in what was an already bizarre King-promoted show.
The WBA and the joke that keeps on giving
Ladies and gentlemen, the WBA heavyweight title(s)…
IF any boxing fan needs evidence that the vast majority of WBA belts aren’t worth the synthetic leather they’re made from, one should take a look at the contest the sanctioning body are peddling as a world heavyweight title fight this weekend. Promoted by Don King (more on that old rogue in a bit) and starring Manuel Charr [
above] and Trevor Bryan, this bout – and the road to it – should be used as Exhibit A in the case against the World Boxing Association.
