Saturday afternoon. In the winter sun, Manor House in Kilrea casts its long shadow on the 18th green.
The latest round of Covid-19 restrictions has forced the golfers indoors, and only birdsong travels on the breeze from its bunkers and fairways.
Inflatables from the recently-built water park have been packed away for the winter, and only a scatter of outdoor furniture remains on the deck of the restaurant.

The first column, which ran on Dec. 2, dealt with Carpenter Steel making parts for the engine of the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh flew on the first solo transatlantic flight on May 20-21, 1927.

Workers at Carpenterâs Riverside plant fashioned parts for the plane from nickel steel, nickel chrome, vanadium steel and stainless steel.
Whatâs new is what happened to the excess steel from the Lindbergh project at Carpenter.
Pieces of it made up the centerpiece of commemorative watch fobs, according to Dave Silcox of Shillington.
