Even after swearing oaths before the Almighty Gods of all the three religions as well as by placing their hands on Constitution of India, hectic activity is still on in the Congress camp to defect and join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The 11-member Congress needs eight members (two third) to avoid disqualification, failing which they have to resign and face bye-election to get re-elected on the BJP tickets. But they have signed affidavits that if they resign, they will not re-contest any Assembly election during the whole term.
If you want to contest an election, at any level, do not hop into the fray with identity tags or your caste, creed, or region. Any native population will view these tags with complete suspicion and absolute disdain. Every candidate ought to have the same goal - progress.
Mere 10 per cent votes polled by the youngest party like Revolutionary Goans has created a scare among all the political parties in Goa. The Congress is in fact using the RG as its ‘defence’, claiming that they lost because of the regional outfit. It is also alleged that the BJP countered the strong anti-incumbency by hatching a ‘secret plot’ with the RG in order to split the votes. Is it so?
The recently concluded highly unpredictable Goa election has sent 17 MLAs back to the Assembly, in spite of a statewide wave of electing fresh faces this time. But it was not a cakewalk for them, may it be the chief minister, former ministers or the legislators. And it was across the party lines, but maximum belonged to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
