Activist Manoj Jarange has accused the Maharashtra government of deceiving Marathas over quota issues, declaring that the community will only support leaders who genuinely back reservation for them. He criticized Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of trying to suppress the Maratha agitation. Jarange claimed that the Maratha reservation bill passed by the state legislature, which provides quota in government jobs and education, would not pass legal scrutiny. He emphasized the demand for reservation under the OBC category and expressed dissatisfaction with the current bill.
The Maratha community is not backward and hence it does not require reservation in government jobs and education, a petitioner argued before the Bombay high court on Wednesday.
