absence from the judiciary committee has held up 12 of president biden. judicial nominees. they need her vote. and she has missed all in 58 votes. now, feinstein asked majority leader chuck schumer to temporarily replaced around the judiciary committee. but in order to do that democrats need republicans to buy in, and they are not budging. never not once have we allowed temporary substitutes on committees and now is not the time. to start. republicans are not going to break this precedent in order to bail out senator schumer or the biden ministrations, most controversial nominees. manu raju is outfront on capitol hill tonight and manu. this is really getting a lot going here on senators as they re returning to the hill from a recess. so what more are you hearing? this is a hugely significant issue because if senator feinstein is not able to return, and republicans don t agree to replace her with any democrat on the committee, the republicans essentially have
dude, what? of course. look, all the characterizations are just warming up. overly ambitious, all the crazy nicknames. at the same time, donald trump is not pushing nikki away. donald trump understands that, yeah, she said she wasn t going to run. but she s going to get in. that s okay, at the end of the day. because the three, four, five people in his primary, he s got about 35% of that primary vote, that base vote. donald trump is not going to be complaining. where it gets a little gnarly for him, if everyone looks at this and goes, oh, we re going to line up behind nikki, then that becomes a different conversation. but this is the republican party. that ain t happening. wait, so michael, i have called ambassador governor haley, she was an ambassador under trump. i called her the canary in the coal mine.
because they are afraid of a base that they think is going to come after them. they are afraid of the narratives that are formed out of donald trump s mouth about these individuals. so you can see all of this drama playing out, but did i note that the number of people who said they d be angry or dissatisfied was higher for biden than it was for trump? that was 62%. yeah, you saw that. i think it s whack. it is a little bit whack. but it s worth taking note of, that it speaks to the fact that out there in this country, this is not just about all these hard right republicans. there are a whole lot of americans who would find themselves moving back into the trump space under the right conditions and circumstances. and i think you can t lose sight of that. chairman steele, we ve got a couple minutes left. but i can t have you here, because congressman george santos, oh boy. did you hear about the fact
backpedalling, they re all ready mealy mouthed. they are already whitewashing this whole narrative around trump. if you re going to take on trump, mano a mano, standup. kick him where you need to kick him. right? every time you open your mouth. you ve got to take him down, you ve got to set up the contrast. none of these people are going to set up a contrast with donald trump. what you re going to get, america, is i like his policies, but. well, you know what? we can check through the policies. but the policies aren t your problem. the problem is the man. and you ve got to be able to take on the man in order to get into a contest with joe biden. so i think there s a lot more that s going to be played out here than people realize. and the players are coming to the table, i just don t think they re ready to do what they need to do. but you know what? the new washington post poll i ve been talking about all morning focused on joe biden.
but it does have good numbers for trump, because as if you 6% of americans said they would be, quote, dissatisfied or angry if trump won in 2024. with 41% of americans saying they would feel satisfied but not enthusiastic. there is a good chance of him winning the republican nomination. what s going on here? he absolutely does. and that is because at the end of the day, republicans will come home, as we ve already started to hear this week, governor hogan and a few others. saying oh, we will support the nominee. yeah, i support the nominee. i support the nominee of the republican party. that answer should be, i will support the nominee of republican party if it s not donald trump. period. because it s clarifying, it is consistent. if you have been in that space. that is donald trump s superpower. no one is consistent or clarifying when it comes to him. and they don t know how to yet,
