Bison installation launches Métis Mentorship Project at Mann Art Gallery

For more see Page 13. The Mann Art Gallery Intergenerational Métis Mentorship Project officially launched Friday with the first installation of a series at the gallery. This is similar to a project last year and sees local artist Leah Dorion mentoring emerging Métis cultural educator and artist Ashley Smith. Dorion and Smith, will create three temporary art projects in outdoor spaces surrounding the Mann Art Gallery and E.A.Rawlinson Centre in July and August. Each installation will be up for several weeks.

Two inductees announced for Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame

Prince Albert Daily Herald (File photo/Daily Herald) Visual artist Andrée Felley-Martinson and builder Sheryl Kimbley will be the newest additions to the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame next February. The Prince Albert Arts Board announced the decision on June 22. Arts Board vice-chair Cara Stelmaschuk said this year’s crop of nominees was a fantastic one, but both nominees stood out for their efforts. Kimbley, originally from Big River First Nation, is best known as producer of Voices of the North. Stelmaschuk said Kimbley almost counts as a group induction because of her strong connection to Voices of the North.

Second series of outdoor art installations coming to area around Mann Art Gallery over summer

Prince Albert Daily Herald Michael Oleksyn/Daily Herald Artist mentor Leah Dorion of Intergenerational Métis Artist Mentorship Project overlooked the painting of a bison for the first art installation at the Mann Art Gallery on Monday. Preparations have begun for the second Intergenerational Métis Artist Mentorship Project at the Mann Art Gallery. On Monday artist Leah Dorion, this year’s mentee Ashley Smith and guest artist and last year’s mentee Danielle Castle began preparations for the first of three art installations which will begin to go up on Friday. The project builds on last year’s project which created five art installations around the city and was a collaboration between Castle and Dorion.
