While largely unaffected to date by the surge in COVID-19 cases that has swept across other parts of Ontario, Manitoulin Health Centre has nonetheless continued to prepare for it since last spring, and now stands ready to help its neighbours.
“Fortunately, to date, there has not been any need for extra beds on the second floor of the Little Current site or the field hospital,” the health centre said in a release. “However, the situation is not as good elsewhere in the province and that will affect MHC.”
Street-sweeping underway
Crews have begun sweeping roads and sidewalks in high pedestrian traffic areas and in areas where runoff can affect waterways. At the end of April, operations will expand city-wide, with support from Jara Sweeping and The Munro Group. Work is scheduled to be completed by mid-June, depending on weather and the impact of COVID-related restrictions on operations.

All paved roads maintained by the municipality, including bridges and gutters, are swept each spring. Sidewalks and walkways that are plowed and sanded during the winter are cleared, as well as hard-surface boulevards and medians.
