Sudbury’s top public health official expressed her delight Thursday with the progress made in combatting COVID-19 locally, while also urging the public to be patient as the province proceeds with its reopening plans.
“I am very pleased that our communities, along with the rest of the province, will be entering Step 1 of Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen tomorrow,” Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, medical officer of health for Public Health Sudbury and Districts said in the health unit’s weekly update. “It has been a very long road and we are not out of the woods yet, but it is a sign of the progress we have made. Please remember that while more outdoor activities are permitted, you are still only allowed to gather indoors with those who you live with.

SUDBURY The numbers are heartbreaking. New data from Statistics Canada reveals that more than six in 10 Indigenous women report having been physically or sexually assaulted at some point during their lifetime, compared to more than four in 10 in non-Indigenous women. Public Health Sudbury and Districts had some encouraging news in its daily update of COVID-19 case data on Tuesday, reporting no new cases in its service area.
Six resolved cases, along with a correction that removed one case Monday and another on Tuesday, dropped the total of active cases in Greater Sudbury, the Sudbury District and Manitoulin District to an even 50.

Four more recent cases screened positive or variants of concern, the heath unit said. One was added to the outbreak-associated category, while one remained under investigation.
