A 49-year-old Manistee man died after driving his 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass into an oncoming 1999 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 24-year-old Onekama man. The Onekama man had his 4-year-old son in the car, but both only suffered minor injuries and were released from West Shore Medical Center.

Frankfort resident Kim Fairchild was rescued from a near drowning on the Big Manistee River on June 6, 2019 when fishing with his friend Rick Herman (far right). The three who pulled the non-breathing Fairchild from the water and revived him were Troy Ance, Ben Blostein and Steven Padilla.
