Moulvibazar district has one of the largest Manipuri communities in the country. While everyone in the community can speak Manipuri, the language’s script and alphabet were at risk of extinction.
Love was in the air at the Manipuri villages of Madhabpur and Adampur in Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj upazila as Rash Mela, the biggest religious celebration of the community, concluded with due fervor and festivities yesterday.
Both the international and domestic demand for Manipuri cloth, a style of handwoven fabric native to Sylhet that come in block, stripe and flat colour print, has recovered in line with the receding coronavirus pandemic.
