A single bench of High Court of Manipur by Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu had on Wednesday ordered the removal of a paragraph from the March 27, 2023 order passed by the then Acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan which directed the state government to consider the inclusion of the Meitei community in the scheduled tribe list.
India News: In a significant development, the Manipur high court has deleted its direction to the state government to consider including the Meitei community in the list of the Scheduled Tribes (STs), months after the verdict sparked violence in the state.
The now-deleted direction had led to an outbreak of violence in Manipur last year, prompting the top court to eventually take suo motu cognisance of the issue.
