FLEET celebrates a year of sustainable mobility achievements, welcomes Ferrari and Luberef as joining partners

The FLEET Consortium’s 2022 partners Aramco, Bahri, Pacific Green Technologies, SAPTCO, and Toyota joined KAUST and the Oil Sustainability Program (OSP) to celebrate the year’s achievements which include pioneering the practicality of hydrogen fuel cell electric buses as an efficient path towards a cleaner public transportation system in Saudi Arabia via these zero-emission vehicles.

Using AI to Speed Up the Development of Greener Fuels

Computers can be taught to generate mixtures from a set of target properties using an inverse mixture-design approach based on machine learning. This KAUST-developed technology could be used to identify high-performance transportation fuels with minimal atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Speed innovation: How Saudi university lab is helping McLaren lap F1 field

JEDDAH: When McLaren Racing teammates Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris finished first and second in September’s Italian Grand Prix, the gap between them was just 1.747 seconds. If either had run just a few seconds slower at Monza, Formula 1’s fastest track, they would have tumbled off the winner’s podium and into the middle of the pack. That is why F1 teams spend tens of

Study shows alkanes can rapidly acquire oxygen atoms in a free radical chain reaction; significant for fuel combustion and air pollution

Study shows alkanes can rapidly acquire oxygen atoms in a free radical chain reaction; significant for fuel combustion and air pollution An international team of researchers has shown that alkanes participate extensively in autoxidation reactions with oxygen molecules. The discovery, which overturns current chemical wisdom, has implications for air quality prediction and efficient fuel combustion in engines. An open-access paper on the work is published in the journal Communications Chemistry. Oxidation chemistry controls both combustion processes and the atmospheric transformation of volatile emissions. In combustion engines, radical species undergo isomerization reactions that allow fast addition of O 2. This chain reaction, termed autoxidation, is enabled by high engine temperatures, but has recently been also identified as an important source for highly oxygenated species in the atmosphere, forming organic aerosol.
