about going to talk with kenneth chesebro on october 23rd? and what s the downside for donald trump if this happens? great question. and the downside or the defendant is that she is ready and that the case will be effectively handled. the downside for her is that she is now going to have to have multiple trials. it is not in judicial administration efficiency to have multiple trials on the same facts where you have to prove them over, and over again in different trials. and you always run the risk that a witness will have a slightly different statement of fact in trial one that in child to. even though they had the same witnesses on the same fact patterns. so there are some risk of having multiple trials. this does get him, in a way, a severance. and, i could see some advantages to not being on trial with donald trump in the same courtroom.
you re going to praise the indictment and that means you ve thought about what s your opening statement, what s a closing statement. so i think that she is ready. on the other hand, everybody knew what the evidence was in some regard. i mean, obviously new evidence was revealed here. but the basic outlines have been known since the january six committee hearings. since all of that. so, i think that there is no reason why they can t proceed as defendants, to defend themselves against it. and he asked for it. and that s what the law in georgia s. it is as the judge said, that it calls it up so quickly it has to have a jury selected, and the trial start before the november 3rd date. and it s cutting it close, honestly, with october the 3rd. thinking a jury is not going to be that easy in the case. so it s easy with just one defendant. joyce. when i look at these mugshot, or the shots of the people who
long time with a lot, and lots of interviews. a lot, send lots of investigations, lots and lots of people who have been brought by a grand jury. tell, me from your experience as a former prosecutor are most prosecutors ready to go once they bring up an indictment? yes, but there is also a lot of evidence that can be gathered post didn t diamond in watergate the smoking gun tape was part of a trial. there wasn t part of the grandeur investigation, we indicted in march, and in april made a request for 64 additional claims that handed off including about smoking guns. so you can get more evidence. we probably would ve had convictions, based on the evidence we had as of the date of the indictment and i don t doubt that. but, certainly, in a stronger case with that additional evidence. so, you are ready, you know the evidence, you put it together and you have thought about how
three other criminal cases. you know that that s at the very top of his legal playbook. delayed these trials. so, is it going to work? what can we expect from the other ongoing legal disputes in district attorney willis s sprawling criminal case? back with us, joe wind backs and joyce vance. joyce, let me just start with you. what is going on here just with chesebro. what is he trying to achieve? why does he want a speedy trial and given all we have learned about the manhattan trial, and the more legault trial and the january six election overturning trial, we all think these things are far out or farther out. how come this one is scheduled for october 23rd? right. so this is a quirk of georgia law that permits a defendant to make, what s called, a speedy trial demand. if they do that, statutorily, the district attorney has to be ready to go to trial by next term of court, following the one that is currently in
