MANGALURU: Opposing the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) will hold a protest rally from Light House Hill to the deputy commissioner’s office on March 2.
DCC president K Harish Kumar said that organisations of owners and workers of buses, auto rickshaws, fishing boats and other forums will take part in the rally, which will commence at 10am. Meanwhile, buses and auto rickshaws will remain off the road as a token of protest till 2pm on the day, he said.

PADUBIDRI (UDUPI): Piggybacking on the feel good factor of slew of measures that he implemented during his tenure as chief minister in general and the Anna Bhagya scheme in particular, Siddaramaiah, leader of the opposition, launched a political broadside against the state government.
He also took on his critics for dubbing him as a person opposed to Lord Ram, reminding them that the word ‘Ram’ forms part of his name.
Using the ‘Janadwani’ padayatra organised by the Udupi District Congress Committee as a battering ram against the B S Yediyurappa government, Siddaramaiah questioned the move by incumbent CM to reduce the quota of 7-kgs rice that he earmarked under the Anna Bhagya scheme. “Congress is bound to come back to power with a majority in the next assembly polls and we will increase this quota to 10-kgs of rice,” he said.
Former Kasaragod block panchayat president AKM Ashraf recalled that 22 people had died due to the closure of interstate borders during lockdown. He urged both sides to immediately resolve the issue. Deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod district collector should discuss the issue immediately since a large number of students studying in Mangaluru may not be able to attend classes and examinations. We will hold a march from Kasaragod to Talapady if travel restrictions continue,” he added.

MANGALURU: The Kambala Academy is contemplating training women in various aspects of Kambala- a buffalo race and a traditional male-dominant sport of Tulunadu. The academy after holding discussions with experts is hoping to train women as announcers, flag bearers as well as jockeys.

PADUBIDRI (UDUPI DISTRICT): Tacitly backing demand by Panchamasali Lingayat community for reservations for the community and its inclusion under the Category 2A in the state quota, former chief minister Siddaramaiah however put a rider.
