The Karnataka government is planning to set up a fund under the Visvesaraya Technological University (VTU) to support start-ups in engineering colleges, according to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, Ashwath Narayan CN.
Inaugurating the ‘Centre of Excellence in Digital Forensics Intelligence and Cyber Security’ on Wednesday evening, he said plans are afoot to set up a ₹50-crore fund to support start-ups under VTU.
Appreciating Sahyadri College for its centres of excellence in emerging areas and in-house start-ups, he said engineering colleges have wider scope due to the importance given to the multi-disciplinary approach. He urged students to skill up and be industry relevant.

The MOU was signed with Rohit Vora, director, Adani Cementation limited and KG Nath deputy chairman, NMPT.
MANGALURU: The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) and various stakeholders and prospective investors signed seven MoUs worth Rs 1,417 core at the Mangaluru Innovation Conclave on Wednesday. M Venkatesh, MD, MRPL and A.V Ramana Chairman, NMPT signed two MoUs including for the construction of a desalination plant in the land already leased out by NMPT at a proposed investment of Rs 637 crore. The other MoU was for the laying of BS-VI HSD pipeline from MRPL refinery premises to NMPT at a proposed cost of Rs 73 crore.

Mangaluru (Karnataka) [India], February 24 (ANI): The Karnataka government has identified Mangaluru as a prominent technology cluster in its effort to expand the information technology industry as per Beyond Bengaluru policy, said Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday.
Ashwathnarayan during his inaugural speech at Mangaluru Innovation Conclave said, Mangaluru has been identified as the emerging technology cluster which includes the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, and Kodagu and this process will be accelerated with appropriate measures. Mangaluru will also emerge as the startup hub apart from becoming an IT hub and the government is taking required measures towards that end. Mangaluru, Feb 24 : Mangaluru on the west coast would be the next IT and IT services industry cluster in Karnataka after Bengaluru, said state Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan on Wednesday. We have identified the port city of Mangaluru as the next IT and IT e-service industry cluster as per Beyond Bengaluru policy in the state, said Narayan at the Mangaluru Innovation Conclave here.
Mangaluru is located about 360km west of state capital Bengaluru.
