Republicans, Democrats announce Auburn, Cayuga County candidate endorsements

The Citizen staff The two major political parties in Cayuga County have been making endorsement decisions in recent days for candidates seeking to run for countywide seats as well as Auburn City Council and the county Legislature. The endorsements are a major step in the political calendar, with official party support offering potential candidates a boost in the process of gathering signatures for petitions to be put on the ballot. While neither party has finished making all of their endorsements, each announced several choices following meetings held by Republicans on Saturday and Democrats on Monday. An Auburn-area attorney plans to also run for the seat, which comes open at the end of the year. The Auburn Citizen reports that Manford Benjamin “Ben” Susman announced his candidacy after Democrats endorsed him on Monday. The seat is currently held by Mark Fandrich, who said earlier this year that he would not seek re-election for another 10 year term. “My years of experience working with real people on matters that affect their lives, careers and families has prepared me to serve our county with a high level of fairness and respect from the bench each and every day,” Susman said in a press release.
