A vital charity for Cumbria is celebrating the end of lockdown blues with a spectacular ball and is inviting the public to attend.
After a yearâs hiatus, the Great North Air Ambulance Serviceâs Air Angels Ball is back, promising a dazzling night of glamour, stunning entertainment, fantastic food and plenty of surprises.
This will be the first big social event hosted by the charity since COVID-19 restrictions cancelled many of their plans.
The event takes place at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead on October 9 and will be hosted by the charityâs patron, Pam Royle.
As the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s (GNAAS) thirty-year-old workhorse comes to the end of its life as an air ambulance, the charity has moved to replace it with a younger, more powerful helicopter. The charity said the additional power and versatility of the Dauphin N3 aircraft will enable it to reach even more patients across the region from its base at Langwathby, near Penrith. The helicopter is expected to begin work in April, and the charity is now appealing to the public to help meet the repayment costs in order to keep the service flying. Andy Mawson, director of operations at GNAAS, said: “The Pride of Cumbria has been a magnificent servant to the county and the North as a whole. She has flown many thousands of missions and been the difference between life and death for so many people.

A life-saving charity is launching a major fundraising campaign today to help it continue its vital work.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service, based at Langwathby, near Penrith, needs to find thousands of pounds a month to help keep the service airborne.
Its Pride of Cumbria helicopter after 30 yearsâ service is now coming to the end of its life and would need £500,000-worth of routine maintenance next year to keep flying.
The charity has bought a newer, more powerful Dauphin N3 helicopter, which it says will allow it to reach even more patients across the county.
