DALLAS - With the Texas Legislature’s special session just more than a week away, child advocacy groups are preparing for what might be on lawmakers’ agendas.
The organization Children at Risk spoke to their partners on what was accomplished during this year’s legislative session and what still needs to be done.

A new $250,000 child care voucher program in Fort Bend County will help support families impacted by the pandemic, county leaders announced on Monday.
The program will utilize CARES Act funding to provide some families a $500 voucher per child.
Families will be limited to up to three vouchers in total, and will be able to use the vouchers at more than 180 licensed child care facilities in Fort Bend County, according to Fort Bend County Judge KP George.

DALLAS The 100th Day of School is a big event at Frank Guzick Elementary. Kids sprinkle baby powder in their hair to look as if they’re centenarians. They decorate T-shirts with rows of safety pins or Cheerios, adding more and more until they hit triple digits.
This year’s celebration was supposed to be on Friday, and it had taken on a special meaning among some in the East Dallas community.
