JONESVILLE The Sauk, Hillsdale County s community theatre, will present its first 24-Hour Theatre Project this weekend, culminating with a public performance.
The event begins at 7 p.m. June 11, when five directors and five playwrights meet together. They will be given a topic to inspire the creation of a new 10-minute play.
At 8 p.m., an audition is held. Directors and playwrights then select the actors to inspire the new theatrical work.
After the cast is set, the writing begins. Playwrights have until 8 a.m. to write their new works.
At 8 a.m., the actors gather to read the scripts for the first time.
Sauk Shorts, a celebration of short plays, each tell a complete story in 8-15 minutes.
The annual Sauk tradition starts at 8 p.m. tonight, April 29, as a Pay What You Can preview. Other performances are at 8 p.m. April 30 and May 1 and at 3 p.m. May 2. All performances take place at The Sauk Theatre, 240 E. Chicago St., Jonesville. The show is sponsored by Sandi Miller. The plays will make you laugh, touch your heart and entertain you with their originality, Executive Director Trinity Bird said. Perhaps the most unique and original production in any Sauk season, Sauk Shorts guarantees something for everyone.

A cross country road trip explores the legacy we leave behind as The Sauk, Hillsdale County’s community theatre, opens their 2021 Sauk Seconds season with Tina Howe’s “Approaching Zanzibar.”
The show features a cast of Sauk veterans with performances April 15-18. Performances are at 8 p.m. April 15-17 with a 3 p.m. matinee on April 18. All shows take place at the Sauk Theatre, 240 E. Chicago St., Jonesville. Tickets are $10. The April 15 performance is a “Pay What You Can” preview.
Seating is limited and available seats are socially distanced. Masks are required at all times while inside the theatre.
