The German supermarket chain will source more groceries from British producers in 2021
30 December 2020 • 7:45pm
Discounter Aldi has said it will buy more food and drinks from UK suppliers over the next five years.
The German supermarket chain, which has been stealing market share from established rivals over the past two decades, will spend £500m in 2021 on new and refurbished stores, depots and working with more British producers.
Giles Hurley, the boss of Aldi UK, said the vast majority of its grocery products now came from domestic suppliers, such as the Manchester Drinks Company, which sells gin.
Aldi also confirmed it would continue to pay small businesses, with an annual turnover of less than £1m, “as soon as they [invoices] are submitted” until the end of 2021.
